EAST AND WEST

St Peter, patron of Rome, embraces his brother, St Andrew, patron of Constantinople

At a gathering of Catholics and Orthodox and Oriental Christians this past year in D.C. "Orientale Lumen" (June 15-18, 1999), Cardinal Keeler gave an opening address. Present for this Conference, was our pastor, Father Paschal. During the course of this address, Cardinal Keeler said:

"And also here is Father Paschal Morlino from Baltimore. Father Paschal is, I think, the incarnation of East and West. He is a Benedictine whose residence looks as though it came from the East with a wonderful display of icons!"

Father Paschal has had "bi-ritual" faculties and celebrates Mass not only in the Roman Rite but in the Byzantine Rite as well. St Benedict's is blessed, too, to have its own Byzantine Chapel within the larger church.
